How did Sky Chocolates come about?

For me, chocolate is about love, connection and sharing. I cared for my mother for many years and we shared a bit of chocolate, usually over a coffee. Even though we lived together, we met once or twice a week in a bakers or a chocolaterie. Over a coffee and a bit of chocolate we shared intimate moments where much was spoken and felt.

We also shared a bit of chocolate in the evenings, after our meal, again, with a coffee. It was a daily routine and a daily treat, both being relieved that it was the end of the day, chronic pains and difficulties of the day were over and we could relax companionably.

When my mum finally had to go into a care home, I was at a loss and all I wanted was to find a way to have the joy of giving pleasure. Looking at the clouds through the large windows where I lived, I began thinking of chocolate and started making some in an attempt to keep the feelings that came around sharing chocolate with my mum. I quickly found it was as creatively fun as painting and time consuming.  As I lived on the premises of my brother's horticultural business, there were always hard working people who were more than happy to indulge in my concoctions.  I felt joy to see them being enjoyed and my sister in law began selling them in the flower shop, attached to the business.

The name simply came as I got inspired in starting when  looking at the clouds and the sky and that it was my view when making chocolates.

Time has gone by, my mum died and I returned to the UK, where I found the perfect place to continue creating chocolates.

I recently found that the reason chocolate was a source of comfort for so many people is that cocoa butter melts at our body's temperature and is therefore similar to breast milk, sweet and deliciously fatty. That is in addition to chocolate activating serotonin chemical in our brain which is often called the ‘happy chemical’. Personally, I’ve always felt chocolate was the perfect anti-depressant.

Anyway, that is how Sky Chocolates came to be. I hope you might enjoy some of them!
